Dual health insurance coverage?

(Submitted by: Rico)

I am covered through my wife’s health plan (Avmed) in Florida and my employer also provides coverage (BCBS) for me and also my employer puts a few hundred $ per year in a HSA plan for me.
Now I am concerned with having 2 health plans, is it going to be a hassle? Like each company would say the other company should pay and I get stuck?

What You Should Know About Blue Cross

About The Blue Cross Blue Cross was started in 1929 by Justin Ford Kimball, at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. It was developed to guarantee teachers 21 days of hospital care for $6 a year. Later on the plan was enlarged to other people in the Dallas area and then throughout the country.

In 1939 the term Blue Cross was used to include other plans as well. Blue Cross is a name used by an association of health insurance plans throughout the United States.

It was developed in 1929, by Justin Ford Kimball, at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. The first plan guaranteed teachers The plan was extended to other employee groups in Dallas, and then nationally. The American Hospital Association (AHA) adopted the Blue Cross symbol in 1939 as the emblem for plans meeting certain standards.

So as it stands today Blue Cross is an independent membership association working on a service basis and providing protection against the costs mainly of hospital care. Benefit payments are made directly to the hospital. Benefits vary among various Blue Cross associations.

And then there is Blue Shield which, rather than covering hospital care, provides protection on a service basis against the cost of surgical and medical care in a limited geographical area. The actual Blue Cross, which was a blue Greek Cross, was created by the artist Joseph Binder under the auspices of E A van Steenwijk who was the Company secretary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.

The Blue Cross began now to be used in other parts of the country as well. At present it is a national trade organization linking 40 health insurance companies in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico together.

Supposedly, Blue Cross operations are considered to happen as franchises in specifically designated regions. At present these services are available in every state wihin the United States and every Canadian province

Blue Cross is very prevalent in providing coverage to State as well as Federal government employees and they are also very important in the administration of Social Security. There is a problem with health insurance in the United States.

There is a conflict between the need for the insurance company to make money versus the need of their clients to remain healthy. This need to make money has become so uncontrolled that one third of the population in the US can not afford medical insurance and medical bills today are the major cause for bankruptcies. This is why state and federal regulation of health insurance companies is necessary. On the other hand medical insurance companies could hypothetically face unforeseen events such as the chicken flu where a large percentage of their clients all of a sudden face horrendous hospital bills.

Theoretically this could bankrupt the insurance company within a very short timeframe. So to prevent this situation medical insurance companies use a variety of checks and balances to limit payments to beneficiaries.

And of course it is a well-known fact that those seeking health insurance are also those most likely to have medical problems being present or future ones. It is also known that if the cost of healthcare to the beneficiary is very low than the use of medical benefits will be much greater than if the cost is substantial.

So to find the balance where medical services are available when needed but not abused to the extend that for every paper cut you will make a visit to the doctor proper safeguards should be in place.

So in theory, if people would exercise, would eat healthy food, would avoid addictive substances, this would lower health insurance prices because the insurance companies would pay fewer doctor bills.

However, you could then also say that too much of the insurance premiums would be paid out in executive salaries or kept as profits by the company.

How to Know Which Blue Cross of California Plan is Right for you

Blue Cross of California is part of largest health insurance provider in the nation. It has been serving the health insurance needs of California residents since 1937. Blue Cross of California, together with its branded affiliates, provides health care services to more than 6.8 million members. There is a reason why Blue Cross is the largest in California. What you will find is coverage options that are easy to understand, health plans to fit everyone’s budget, customer service that is always there to answer your questions and one of the largest networks of doctors and hospitals. Blue Cross of California offers four group of health plans, your standard PPO plans, HMO health plans, Lumenos Plans and Short Term Health Plans.

Preferred Provider Organization plans — PPO plans for short — save you money when you use healthcare providers within a selected network. Blue Cross has one of the largest PPO networks in California, with over 48,500 doctors and 465 hospitals.

By putting together this network of healthcare professionals, Blue Cross is able to ensure the quality of healthcare services its members receive. It’s also able to negotiate the price those services will be given at — enabling it to pass savings on to its members.

These plans are ideal for people with a family — or people about to start one. They offer coverage for you and your school-age children. They also offer maternity benefits.

Best of all, most of the services you and your family need immediately are covered before you have to start paying the deductible. This includes preventive care, doctor visits, and generic prescription drugs.

Some of the features of Blue Cross PPO plans include:

• $10 copay on prescription drugs

• Maternity coverage

• Flexible deductible options — as low as $500

• Coverage for physical therapy and acupuncture

• Coverage for “Well Baby” and “Well Child” care

The flexible deductible helps you budget for your medical needs. The higher the deductible you choose, the lower your monthly premiums.

Like most PPO plans, the Blue Cross plans let you use a healthcare provider outside of the network, and still enjoy some coverage. For most services, Blue Cross will still pay up to 50% of the cost of healthcare you receive outside the network. But to get full coverage, you should choose a provider within the network. Blue Cross has a provider finder to help you find a professional in your area.

Health Maintenance Organization plans — HMO plans for short — offer affordable coverage with predictable expenses.

HMO plans are able to offer affordable healthcare by controlling the costs of elective care. In an HMO plan, your healthcare is organized by a primary care physician. This physician is responsible for your routine care and exams, and refers you to specialists when needed. HMO plans are cheaper than PPO plans, but have a smaller network of healthcare providers.

To take advantage of the coverage, you have to use providers within the plan’s network. This can be an inconvenience if your current doctor isn’t part of the network. But since Blue Cross has one of the largest networks in California, finding a healthcare provider is easy. Blue Cross even has a Provider Finder to help you locate a healthcare professional near you.

Blue Cross HMO plans have low deductibles. And some of the plans have no deductible. Doctor visits have copayments as low as $10. And generic drugs only cost $10 a prescription, too.

Other HMO benefits:

• 80% coverage of inpatient hospital fees

• Maternity coverage — only a $10 copay for doctor visits

• Coverage for physical therapy and chiropractic services

• No charge for x-rays and anesthesia when related to a doctor’s visit

Because of the controlled costs, budgeting for your healthcare needs is easy. And if you choose an HMO plan with no deductible, you don’t have to pay out for your coverage to kick in.

While HMO plans aren’t as flexible as PPO plans, the savings and the predictability of expenses are worth it for most people and families. And if you or someone in your family has a pre-existing condition, an HMO plan could be your best option.

The new Lumenos plans from Blue Cross of California give you control over your healthcare. That means you control where your healthcare dollars go. Nothing comes between you and your doctor. And with the Lumenos Health Incentive Account plan, Blue Cross will actually reward you for making healthy decisions.

Lumenos is a consumer-directed health plan. That means that instead of relying on your insurance company to make health decisions for you, you and your doctor are in control of your healthcare.

Once you meet your deductible, the Lumenos plans include 100% coverage for many healthcare needs, including visits to your doctor, inpatient hospital services, prescription drugs, and maternity care.

And like all health plans from Blue Cross of California, the Lumenos plans include access to the award-winning Blue Cross health management website. If you have health questions, the Nurse Advice Line is just a phone call away — and available 24 hours day. And the Personal Health Coach Program will give you assistance managing your special health needs.

A good psychiatrist in Gainesville, FL for treating depression/bi-polar? Website that reviews them?

(Submitted by: mariclair5)

Preferably one on BCBS Health Options and taking new patients. Also prefer a doc who considers ‘alternative’ practices as a possible supplement to standard treatment.
I vaguely remember hearing about a national website where patients could review doctors, but it didn’t have a memorable name and I can’t find it now.

Keyword Dilution and Excessive Cross-linking

I haven’t heard Keyword Dilution and Excessive Cross-Linking before. But, as I have searched and read some of the articles about it. I have learned that Keyword Dilution and Excessive Cross-Linking can really hurt your sites ranking.

I will start with Keyword Dilution. What is Keyword Dilution and How does it hurt your sites ranking?

Keyword Dilution means having too many keywords written on a web page regardless if those keywords are on your home page or in any part of your web site. But, if you stuff lots of keywords on your homepage that hurts more.

If you really want your site to rank on search engine without having a major drop you have to avoid keyword dilution. You should put only one keyword on a page. In short, you should have the same number of keywords and pages. For example, if you use the Wordtracker and you selected 10 keywords or keyphrases, that means you should create 10 individual pages for your site.

So for your homepage, if your main topic is all about “bags”, then focus on that single keyword which is “bags”. Don’t ever try to dilute your homepage with lots of keyword terms like “We sell original blue bags, red bags, black bags and white bags”. Those keywords should be put on the other individual pages and not for your homepage.

As a Search Engine Optimizer, you should keep in mind that a single keyword are much more competitive to optimize.

Next is, Excessive Cross-Linking. Cross Linking refers to those links between a family of domain or those website that owned by one person. Cross linking is not bad and that is an acceptable approach for different Search Engine. But, Excessive cross-linking is not acceptable.

Excessive Cross-Linking means linking to sites that are owned by a person in multiple ways. By doing that kind of act, your site will be penalized. Yahoo and Google penalized those sites that has excessive cross-linking.

Cross linking strategy can help users by pointing them to other sites that can give them another information on the topic that they choose. On the other hand, there are some site owners who wanted to cross link just for page rank reason.

There are some guidelines that a site owner should consider in cross-linking. The first thing a site owner should consider is the content. Always remember that Content is King. If you really want to link to the other site that is relates to your site make sure that the site has a unique content. You should also consider that you cross-links for your readers and not for page rank reason just like what I said earlier. The next thing is, putting your links on the most appropriate place and adding the right anchor text.

Those are some of the guidelines that a site owner should consider om cross-linking for your site not to be penalized.

Now, that we all know what’s keyword dilution and excessive cross-linking is, maybe we should start checking our sites. We all have reasons why we created different sites just make sure that you did it because you want to share your opinions or your knowledge to other people who is searching the web.

Blue Cross Blue Shield, Helping People in All 50 States

Every year millions of students graduate college and begin to start their own lives, one of the biggest worries that these students face is their health insurance coverage. Many students and parents believe that the parents health insurance will cover their children once they leave for college when in reality if a student is over the age of 18 and not a full time student they may not be covered by the parents health insurance. If a student is enrolled in college as a full-time student they are normally covered until they reach the age of 23 under their parents health insurance policy, regardless of their enrollment in college. This means that once a student graduates college, which is normally around age 22 or 23, they are no longer insured under their parents policy. This is a time in a students life when it is very important to be insured.

Right after a college student graduates they are looking for a job and a place to live, for many of these students their first job may not even offer health insurance which can be a huge problem. Without health insurance, it can be very expensive to even go to the doctor when you are sick. Usually most doctors offices have low, co-payments for insurance holders when they visit the doctor, normally between $20-$50, but without insurance doctors a patient has to pay the full cost that the doctor and office charges. Depending on what happens during the visit and if any tests or further evaluation is needed the costs can easily skyrocket up into the hundreds, which is much more than many people can afford. These costs can be very threatening to most people and can cause people to avoid visiting the doctor, which can become very dangerous for the persons health. Also, the longer a person avoids medical care when they are ill when they finally go to the doctor it will likely be much more expensive because they will have gotten more sick.

One of the best insurance companies that have a relatively low and affordable rate for post college students is Blue Cross Blue Shield; in many states across the country they offer low cost insurance for graduated college students. Blue Cross Blue Shield has provided inexpensive health care to more than 99 million people in the United States. Blue cross Blue Shield has over 39 independent, community based locations across the United States which means it is likely that you will have an operating branch in your area, and if there isn’t that is okay too because Blue Cross Blue Shield covers people in all 50 states. More than 80% of hospitals and doctors offices have contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, which makes them one of the top 20 insurance companies in the country.

The Blue Mountain And Its Nearby Attractions

Blue Mountain located in New South Wales, Australia. This mountain is famous for its magnificent view, making it one of the famous attractions in the region.

The term vacation or holidays means giving yourself a break from something you usually do by going someplace or attending a certain festival or celebration. Spending the holidays with your whole family and friends are the most common ritual.

In the United Kingdom the term “vacation” is referred exclusively to the very long summer break given by the so called “law courts”. This is a tradition introduced by William the conqueror from Normandy, where in, the intention at that time was as a form of assistance to their great grape harvest. Thus, the French word for the word “vacation” would be “Les Vacances”.

The word vacation is not just a term used in English-speaking countries like North America, which they would refer as a lengthy time away from school or work but rather a pleasure trip one can take to have fun, enjoy and get all the stress out. Although it is common to plan vacations ahead, possibly about 6 months up to a year in advance, others who are not that privileged would go with a quick get away for the weekend or a whole day with the kids somewhere.

Thus, the Blue Mountains were discovered in the year 1788. Although it has been recognized by Indigenous Australians for hundreds of years, the Blue Mountains were considered to be impenetrable by the early settlers of Sydney. This was an impassable area where in it is somewhat next to impossible to cross. This is until criminals and other explorers were able to formulate ways on how they can get across.

The most well known expedition for the Blue Mountains was during the year 1813, by three famous personalities. This would be Lawson, Badland, and Wentworth. Like the earlier explorers who attempted to get across the Blue Mountains, they followed the flow of the river valleys, only to find out the pathway was terminated by vertical cliffs that are about a hundred meters high. With this hindrance, the three explorers just followed the ridges in order to reach the plateau.

The”first crossing” of Lawson, Badland and Wentworth was the precious ordinary misconception brought about by a variety of monuments they perceived to be authentic. Thus, the geographical prize they received for their efforts was the three hills along Kanimbla Valley located in the northwest portion of Mount York which was named after them. This journey to the Blue Mountains was customarily regarded as a serious step that opened the western part of New South Wales to the European resolution.

With regards to the accommodation sector, during the 1970s it mainly revolved on motels. Since the competition was tough in this area, most of the owners barely talk to one another and the environment at that time was warlike and hostile. It would even go to the extent that when a certain motel is full, they will just inform visitors that the whole are is packed so they can just fro accommodations farther away from the area. Thus, a few years later, they were able to set up the Blue Mountains Motel Association.

Since then, this association became the Hotel Industry’s main voice. From them the Tourist Association was able to set up policies with regards to the objectives and aims for their guest.

These were:

• To instill a hospitable and friendly industry within the Blue Mountains

• To analyze as well as act upon the problems that affect the so-called “accommodation industry”

• To liaise with the highly regarded Hotel and Motel Association

• To cooperate and liaise with the Tourism staff of the Blue Mountains.

Thus, last July 21st of the year 1991, the name of the Blue Mountains was requested to be changed to “The Blue Mountains Accommodation Association Inc.”.

There are a lot of reasons why people go to the Blue Mountains to spend a fun filled and exciting vacation. Some of the attractions you will find there are as follows:

• The Scenic Skyway – It is a glass bottom aerial cable car which showcases a 545-meter area ride.

• The Giant Staircase – It is a giant staircase that runs down the cliff.

• The Katoomba Scenic Railway – This rally is listed in the Guiness world book of records. It is given recognition as the steepest railway in the world.

• Jenolan Caves – This is a spectacular limestone cave which is regarded as one of the world’s finest naturally structured cave.

• Zig Zag Railway – It is an old fashioned railway that caters to steam-powered engines that can only be found in Australia.

• Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum – This is the home of the oldest remaining road house, which is situated in New South Wales

• The Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum – This gallery showcases a wide variety of artworks, paintings, model sailing ship replicas, etchings, and sculptures. Moreover, this house was featured in the amusing film about three mermaids called “Sirens”.

• The Edge Cinema – Scenic views and geographical information about the Blue Mountains can also be seen in this cinema through a 45 minute show that was narrated by the acclaimed Hugo Weaving.

• The Toy Museum at Leura – In this distinct museum, various kinds of toys collection is being featured. This is the most loved museum in the region, primarily because of the kids.

Blue Cross Health Insurance

To motivate the use of publicly available quality data for the betterment of hospital care, the Blue Cross and Blue Shied Association Health Insurance has recently announced the national Network Hospital Measurement pilot plan, which would offer quarterly performance reports to hospitals and employers. Blue Cross Health Insurance represents this is a significant step towards helping consumers to receive more consistent and effective care.

The report is based on openly available clinical measures from the Centers for Health Insurance and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization. The reports offer health insurance quotes framework fro continued collaboration with the Blue Cross Health Insurance Plans’ network hospitals to assist additional country wide benchmarks for high-quality care.

“Our mission is to progress the constancy of these proven, proof-based treatments at hospitals across the nation,” said Scott P. Serota, the Blue Cross Health Insurance’s president and CEO. “Making this knowledge work to advantage providers, employers and consumers is the founding principle of the Blues’ vision for better health insurance quotes.”

National studies on health insurance quality have proved that our health insurance system lacks consistency in how scientifically proved care is offered across the country. Blue Cross Health Insurance Quotes is very important and Blue Cross Health Insurance national performance pilot adopts 18 established proof-based measurements. Some measure are very simple, such as making sure that heart attack patient gets aspirin on time at the Blue Cross Health Insurance hospital, or that a pneumonia patient gets advice on quitting smoking.

Eighteen Blue Cross Health Insurance and Blue Shield Companies, representing more than 80 percent of group 94 million Blue Cross Health Insurance subscribers, are very happy about the Blue cross health insurance quotes which are estimated. Collectively, Blue Cross Health Insurance and Blue Shield companies deal with more than 90 percent of all physicians in the country and 80 percent of all hospitals.

An Introduction to Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is a national federation of thirty nine independent companies which is community-based and locally operated. For more than seventy years, the thirty nine Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies have offered affordable with top quality health insurances for millions of families across America. It represents the nation’s one of the largest and oldest family of health benefits companies. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association brands are highly recognized in the health insurance industry which has a headquarters in Chicago with offices in Washington DC. At BCBSA more than 880 staffers work and BCBSA has various Departments and other national programs.

The thirty nine, Blue Cross and Blue Shield System offers healthcare coverages for more than 100 million American citizens which is one in three Americans! BCBSA is the 20th largest employers in the U.S. and their healthcare coverages are available in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia and also in Puerto Rico. If you look nationwide, more than ninety percent of hospitals and eighty percent of physicians contract with BCBS companies, which are more than any other insurance company! Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies provide a wide range of insurance products to all the segments of the American population that will include large employer groups, small individuals and businesses.

Today Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association provide different types of coverages such as Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Health Savings Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), Indemnity and Traditional Coverage, Point-of-Service (POS) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). Here are some facts about the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. It has 65.8 million in PPOs, 12.9 million in traditional, fee-for-service programs, 4.8 million in point-of-service (POS) products and 15.9 million in HMOs. All health insurance companies use historical data and other analysis to predict the medical expenditures for any individuals group that can be a company’s employees. The premiums charged depends upon the amount of claims they have paid previously. When insurers pay more in claims than they would receive in premiums and future services are expected to cost more, premiums go up.

As consumers, we are looking for more medical services and the price of these services are going up. These increased prices are moved on to the staffs in the form of premiums. Insurance companies work with staffs to adjust services provided, as well as the deductibles and co-payments, to reduce the impact of rising costs. Always take time to understand your health insurance; it will help you save healthcare dollars for you and for other Americans. For instance, many health insurance plans provide reduced co-pay if you select FDA approved generic prescription medicines/drugs, so you pay lesser. Because the total average cost of a generic medicine/drug is nearly three times less when compared to the brand name, it helps keeping the costs down on your health plan. Understanding the ABCs on how insurance plans work and how to make use of your own insurance plan will help keep healthcare affordable for all citizens.

are insurance companies required to offer health coverage after COBRA expires?

(Submitted by: jettamadness)

if i leave my current employment, we have less than 20 employees. therefore, i would only be covered by our states (TN) mini-Cobra…and that only extends coverage for 3 months. does insurance like BCBS of TN have to offer health coverage after that expires? thanks.

Phrs Model by Blue Cross Insurance

High quality health care today simply means having the right information in the right hands and at the right time. You may be an individual or a family, every body need concurrent access to health care information that might be discrete among a number of physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and other health care providers. But in fact we are many years away from the system that are fully interoperable. Consumers would have superior access to the health care information they require to optimize their health and health care thanks to a new personal health record (PHR) model being urbanized by Blue cross health insurance plans.

America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) worked jointly to recognize the core health care information to comprise in PHRs, and have urbanized and pilot tested standards, which allow consumers to move PHR data when they actually change their coverage. This ensures that PHRs would surely be portable from health insurer to health insurer as customers have requested. Members of the two teams cover about 200 million people.

The industry model PHR by Blue cross insurance is in fact private, secure web-based tool preserved by an insurer, which contains a consumer’s claims and organizational information. PHRs allow individual patients and their chosen caregivers to look and manage health care information and play a better role in their own health care.

Consequently of health insurance claims filed on behalf of consumers, insurers have most information required to give PHRs, and are in an exclusive position to build them for customers in the near term. PHRs are different from the electronic health records, which providers normally use to store and run detailed clinical information. A projected 75 million people have PHRs throughout health insurers, with millions more planned for the service during 2007.

Physicians tend to encourage insurers to accept a reliable set of core PHR data. Health insurers would carry on innovating in the PHRs they expand, but the aim is to slot in core data elements into every PHR. These elements comprise patient histories, medications, immunizations, allergies, risks, plans of care, and much other information, which physicians recognized as the key data. The health insurance groups of people have set an objective of incorporating the core data elements and implement the standards for portability from a previous insurer to a new insurer by 2008.

The New Orleans Blues, the Spirit and All That Jazz

[New Orleans, July 29, 2008] At the turn of the twentieth century as the palatial plantations up and down the Mississippi River became only a memory, thousands of former workers migrated to New Orleans as did immigrants, seamen, trappers, gamblers, hustlers, scholars and musicians. This convergence with the native population set the stage that birthed the free spirit of Jazz and opened a new frontier.

The Eagle Saloon, built in 1875 and known as the ‘delivery room’ of Jazz, had its roof blown off during The Storm of 2005. The second and third floors were ruined, but the original tin tile ceiling and Spanish tiled floors survived and the blues, the spirit and all that jazz re-ignites every Tuesday night lit by the New Orleans Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Blues and Jazz Band, featuring Guitar Slim, Jr., a showman extradonaire.

The son of Eddie “Guitar Slim” Jones, Jr.’s first release earned him a Grammy nomination. Last Tuesday night, Jr., along with Blues Boy George on lead guitar, Anthony on bass and Milton on drums, received multiple standing ovations during their three-and-a-half hour nonstop renditions of BB King, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles, Motown, Marvin Gaye, Prince, gospel and more, during a private party at the Eagle which was arranged as a thanksgiving service by Pastor John E. Pierre, of the Living Witness Church of God in Christ on Oretha C. Haley Blvd, a three minute drive to the Eagle Saloon at 201 South Rampart Street.

Pastor Pierre and many in the heart of the Central City neighborhood, once a haven for drug dealers and prostitutes, demonstrated their gratitude and love for two teams of volunteers who had come to work in the heat of July alongside recovering addicts to demolish the old so as to bring in new opportunities for the formerly homeless men who commit to a year long residential boot camp known as the Nehemiah Restoration Project, just one of many community outreach programs provided by Living Witness.

The teams of committed Christians came on their own dime from the Crossings Church in Clermont, Florida and Cedar Brook of Wisconsin. It was the first mission trip for the newly established Crossings, but some from Wisconsin were on their sixth and eighth work pilgrimage of service to a community that The Storm of 2005 wrecked havoc upon. The volunteers all work alongside the men in recovery who are now building a barbershop and beauty parlor next door to the Living Witness Church of God.

The regal and patient Pastor Pierre informed me, “The bottom line for us is getting families back together and in strengthening the family. We have found that the effects of Hurricane Katrina have become a unifying source. The churches in this neighborhood came together when this area became a ghost town. My family had been evacuated to Houston and it wasn’t until October 2005 that my Deacon and I were able to return through the back door; by coming through the West Bank, [the area was still under Marshall Law and no freedom of movement was allowed]. It was stinking smelly all over the block; our roof had been torn apart when a tree fell upon it. There was phone and electricity, but still no water.

“I received a call from the Federal Government Health and Human Services Department and was informed that a pre-Katrina grant for Compassionate Capitol had been granted. I had forgotten all about it!

“Half of our church membership has been displaced and decent and affordable housing is still not up to speed. Then there is that double edged sword of the tourism and convention concerns claiming New Orleans is back for they paint a false picture. The French Quarter and St. Charles areas where the tourists go, didn’t receive much damage, but where the people live, the community that is New Orleans is stuck in a time warp. Our Government did not keep its promises.”

After the levees broke and President Bush spoke in Jackson Square, it was lit up by a generator, and when he was through; boom, boom, out went the lights again!

Ask NOT what our Government will do for the under served people who are the spirit of New Orleans, but what we the people of these United States can do to help heal them.

Is Blue Cross And Blue Shield Health Insurance Right For Me?

You have plenty of options when choosing a family insurance plan that suits your needs. Whether choosing a plan through an employer or through a private company, you will have a choice at what type of family Blue Shield plan is right for you. You have the option of PPO, HMO, and POS insurance plans that fit almost all budgets. The size of your co-pay will determine how much you pay in monthly coverage fees and can be raised or lowed depending on your family’s medical needs.

For those families who do not have any chronic medical needs, the Blue Shield POS or PPO plans can be highly affordable and flexible. This plan offers the carrier the option of how much of a deductible they are willing to pay per year. Deductibles under the family Blue Shield insurance plans can range from $250-$2500, depending on what the buyer can afford each month for coverage. Most Blue Shield, PPO and POS plans that are most popular carry a $1000 deductible. This makes monthly coverage fees and co-pays affordable as well as the deductible itself.

If you or a member of your family needs more chronic or consistent medical attention, the family Blue Shield HMO insurance plan may be a better deal. This type of plan covers your primary physician in the network and all your referrals to specialists in the network as well. You will also not have to meet a deductible and have a smaller co-pay. The difference lies in a slightly higher monthly coverage fee. For those who need a lot of medical coverage more regularly the HMO is the better plan for them.

When choosing the right insurance plan, be sure to not only know what your medical needs are, but your budget as well. It is important to pick a plan that offers you the most services at the best cost. If your family Blue Shield plan is through your employer you will most likely not be able to choose the type, but will get a lower cost. If you are purchasing your plan through a private company you will be more able to choose options that best suit your family’s individual needs at a price that is affordable for you. As your needs and financial situations change, you will be able to modify your family Blue Shield plan. Choosing the right insurance plan may not always be easy, but choosing a family Blue Shield plan will be beneficial and serve your family well.

Tonik From Anthem Blue Cross

TONIK from Anthem Blue Cross is a new concept in PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) health insurance.

The plan is marketed exclusively by the web, and agents who sell TONIK link to an online enrollment interface that the insurer hosts.

While the success of TONIK itself it notable, the reasons for the success are even more surprising. First of all, TONIK is described not only in plain language, but also in appropriate slang for the target audience. Even the plan names are intended to please the young target buyer…

“Part-Time-Dare-Devil”, “Thrillseeker” and “Calculated Risk Taker”. Quite a departure for a venerated company like Anthem, who for years extolled tradition as a central value for health insurance.

Probably even more than the names, ancillary benefits (dental and vision) entice buyers to choose TONIK. You may never have a heart attack, but you will certainly need an eye exam and a teeth cleaning.

Each of the three varieties of TONIK include dental and vision benefits, without an additional cost. So while you want the coverage in case of an accident, you know you will use the Dental and Vision for sure.

I don’t think it will be long before other companies create exciting (as exciting as insurance can be) health plans to compete, but in the mean time, TONIK is setting records for a 65 year old company, and that is saying something.

TONIK

Why BlueCrossBlueSheer denied someone who has never take any prescriptions, no any treatments, very healthy?

(Submitted by: alicewonder62)

After I paid all my COBRA last November, I applied BCBS for an individual policy. I, in my whole life, never take any prescription drugs, no overcounter drugs, no hospital, no any treatments, I done my annual check up as always. I workout daily, normal blood pressure, my POP doctor said that I am healthy as 28 yod. But, BCBS has kept denied my application and wanted to see all the details of doctors record. It foreced me to get in the Texas Risk Pool, I am paying four times premium for nothing, I don’t belong to TRP.

However, the agents told me when BCBS denied my application, I’ll never get another shot both by BCBS and other carrier. It did not matter how many times I appealed to BCBS. I have done so. Now my name is on the black list. I don’t know how BCBS is able to predict my high risk in the future without my doctor’s consent and declined my application?

Could someone tell me why my individual healthy application deny? I was in BCBS system for the last 14 years.
I have no pre-existing conditions, I have never treated so-called depression, I never take any anti-depression drugs. BCBS had has my medical records for the last 14 years. I asked/appealed to BCBS, but no answers. Those insurance agents told me that if BCBS denied the first time, they won’t reconsider my application again. I am ponder why and very frustrated. I have so much stress just to dealing with BCBS for the last six months. I felt like a highway-rubbery, Why a healthy person like me being denied?
And now because BCBS denied my application, all other carrier will do the same. (so-called black list, because I have to disclose that my application was denied by BCBS.)
Where is the BCBS underwriting department? not the customer services (because they only took the info, they don’t decide the case.) only Underwriting dept decides the case.

Thank you for your assistance.

Planned Parenthood Question?

(Submitted by: effinxxmandy)

I know the fees at Planned Parenthood depend on your income and familly size, I have no dependents and make upwards of $700.00 a paycheck biweekly. I also have BCBS Basic Insurance plan, does anyone know how much an average visit costs? Just a ballpark figure is fine.

Thanks!

Tonik Health Insurance Plans From Blue Cross

You’re between nineteen and twenty-nine years old, so you’ve pretty much got everything you’ll ever need . . . you’re young, you’re as healthy and in shape and travel as much and are as physically active as you’re ever going to be. But unfortunately, life was designed to be pretty freaking unpredictable. It could only take one slip surfing, one fall snowboarding or one spill off a bike to set you up to discover that from time to time the financial pains resulting from coping with an unexpected injury can easily outweigh any physical distress. If and when you find yourself laid out by the grass, the snow, the waves, the roadway or something as unforeseeable as a burst appendix—you are definitely going to wish you had the assistance that only reliable health care coverage has to give.

Well, Blue Cross of California is now offering a trio of straight-up, practical and reasonably priced health care plans specifically designed to cover A to Z’s just like yours. They’re collectively known as TONIK, and if you happen to be between 19 to 29 years of age, plan rates can clock in as low as sixty to eighty dollars per month, depending on which of the three TONIK’s best describe your lifestyle and overall health insurance requirements as well as where in CA you live, your age and your general medical history. Rates are subject to change, but TONIK can help protect your way of life from just about any mishap – even itself.

Even though TONIK’s Health Plans were meant to be not only young but fun as well, participants will be able to party hardier just a little easier knowing that their health care coverage isn’t in the hands of an insurance company that’s a start-up in any way, shape or form. TONIK is a product offering of the Blue Cross Life & Health Insurance Co., backed by the impeccable reputation of Blue Cross of California; the state’s largest single health indemnity carrier. Blue Cross surveyed hundreds of young adults to find out what it was that they didn’t like about standard health insurance offerings that was keeping 1.6 million of them out of the marketplace in California alone. Nationwide, more than thirty percent of Americans between nineteen and twenty-nine are uninsured.

For example: Many of the polled 19 to 29 year olds told Blue Cross that they weren’t comfortable with the idea that when going in to a physician’s office for a routine visit they were typically responsible for paying not only the pre-set co-payment amount for their office visit but any extra costs for incurred due to necessary x-rays and or blood work.

The TONIK plan takes care of these concerns by covering most lab-work, x-ray requirements and even certain specialized procedures under its office visit co-payment schedule. In addition, TONIK’s practically unprecedented inclusion of both vision care and dental plan benefits on top of the ample coverage for generic pharmacy-RX, doctor’s visits and hospital stays really covers plan members from A to Z. And, once a particular plan’s pre-set deductible level is met, all covered health benefits will be paid in full. Check out how much money you can save with TONIK There are no co-insurance percentages that must be paid-out by plan members until a higher out of pocket maximum has been satisfied. For instance, if you’ve opted into the Calculated Risk Taker plan and find yourself saddled with a mind-numbing $150,000 hospital bill you’ll only be responsible for the first $1,500 of that amount. Tonik even offers discounts for those who lead healthy lifestyles.

TONIK is a truly cutting edge health insurance offering, besides its plan details, even its look, feel and most importantly its’ application and applicant approval process set it apart from just about every health plan currently available–generation y’ers are one hundred percent able to apply for their TONIK plan of choice in the web’s ultra accessible no- paper-needed environment.

BC’s TONIK consist of a trio of similar health plans dubbed for types of young adult users they’re targeted toward. The plans breakdown into TONIK: The Thrill Seeker then TONIK: The Part Time Daredevil and lastly TONIK: The Calculated Risk Taker. With the Blue Cross TONIK’ system, all recent college grads and their peers will have to do is figure out which of those categories they fall into and then apply. It’s just that simple. Thrill Seekers will probably want health covered in case of sports related injury, an accident or other unforeseen medical predicament and figure that they’ll only need to visit a doctor three or four times a year. On the other hand, Calculated Risk Takers, will be willing to pay a bit more for lower deductibles alongside unlimited doctor’s visits as well as comprehensive accident coverage. Part Time Daredevils’ health care needs will tend to fall somewhere between the two.

Each of BC’s TONIK brand health plans includes both dental and vision care. Their deductibles do not have to be satisfied in order for participants to be reimbursed for emergency room services clocking in somewhere over the $100 co-payment amount. Unlike competing PPO or HMO managed care plans, the physician’s office visit co-payment schedule includes not only x-ray but associated laboratory services as well. All covered health benefits are paid-out at 100% after TONIK’s deductibles have been satisfied. And, all three TONIK plans have an impressive $5,000,000 maximum benefit ceiling. If you have any questions about the plan offerings, feel free to click on one of the links below.

Where to Find Celtic Crosses

In many parts of the United Kingdom, you will see free standing crosses in churchyards and in places where one would not expect to find a scared symbol. These Celtic Crosses is a symbol that combines the Latin cross of long stem and two arms with a circle on the inside of the stem joining the stem and the arms. The crosses are all made of stone and have very elaborate carvings. Many of these crosses that exist toady date back to as early as the 7th centuries when Irish missionaries began erecting them in Ireland. In time, as Christianity spread, the crosses also spread so that today you will find them in England, Scotland and Wales although they are most prevalent in Ireland.

Kildalton High Cross is the oldest surviving Celtic cross in Scotland. It is believed to date back to 800 A.D. and has elaborate carvings in its blue stone. The biblical scene on the front of the cross depicts the Virgin and Child, while there are carvings of other Bible scenes on the rest of the cross, such as David and the lion. There are also carvings of animals. The Kilchoman Cross stands in the churchyard of the village of Kilchoman and dates back to about 1400 A.D.

In Cornwall, crosses show the places where missionaries stopped and prayed.

* Halwyn Wayside Cross

* Cardingham Churchyard. This cross possibly dates back to the 10th century. It is an excellent example of a wheeled Celtic cross.

* Laneast. This cross dates back to the 10th century and has the circle on the outside of the arms.

* St. Kew’s Cross. This stands in the churchyard of the St. Kew Church, but was discovered in 1924 as part of a footbridge.

* St. Pillack’s wheel-headed cross. This cross has the carving of a strange figure on the back

A number of crosses and slabs of rock with crosses carved into them have been found on the Isle of Man. You can see Celtic crosses either free standing or carved on stone at the following places:

* Kirk Andreas

* Kirk Ballaugh

* Kirk Bradden

* Kirk Lezayre

* Kirk Lonan

* Kirk Maughold

* Kirk Michael

* Kirk Onchan

St. Brynach’s Cross had Celtic knotwork on both the crown and the pillar. This variation of the cross evolved and was most common in the 8th to the 10th centuries. You can see this cross at Nevern Dyfed, Wales.

In Ireland, places where you can see the Celtic cross are:

* Monastery Clonmacnois in central Ireland

* Muiredach Cross in Monasterboice, County Louth

* Clonfert

* Faheen, County Kilkenny

* Killorglin, County Kerry

There have also been variations of these crosses. The Trinity cross also displays some of the intricate carvings of the Celtic cross. The first free standing cross were also called Croes Hir, which means Long Cross. They were craved as cross heads on a pillar and the arms were well supported by the circle. Muiredach’s cross is one example of a cross carved with elaborate designs of Scriptural passages and Biblical scenes.

Why Should You Have Blue Cross?

About The Blue Cross

Blue Cross was started in 1929 by Justin Ford Kimball, at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.

Who thinks that our health care system isn’t just another example of corporte greed?

(Submitted by: scottyurb)

http://bcn.boulder.co.us/health/healthwatch/canada.html

Here’s a decent link to a major part of the problem. Take notice of the percentage related to BCBS vs. Canada’s entire administrative costs then multiply that the rest of our states and the lumps should be hitting the fan. My employer’s pay over 4$ an hour towards my benefit package and although I am paying into the group coverage, I have no means to reap the benefits of all the combined monies I pay in–considering that once I am unemployed for one-quarter I am required to pay cash out of pocket (around 600$) per quarter in order to remain covered. All of us should stand together and write our legislators supporting the newly elected Democratic Congress future efforts to produce and pass a National health care plan!!!

Who has had the gastric bypass surgery?

(Submitted by: whereamiat2003)

I had the gastric bypass surgery done in 1998 when I was 18 yrs. old and they never told me I would ever have this much complication. My face was the first thing besides my breasts to thin out, and many times I have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror knowing I once had cheeks and bigger breasts. Along with this I have a lot of unattractive skin and need the tummy tuck. BCBS shield told me to speak with the doctor and have him file a report and that is what I am going to do in a few weeks. My question is …What can I do to get a fuller face so my cheeks don’t look sunkin’ in and my cheek bones stick out? Please help me if you can!!!

Blue Cross Blue Shield Id Cards Getting a Makeover

Blue Cross Blue Shield ID cards getting a makeover

Octbober 29, 2008

You’ll be seeing something different from Blue Cross and Blue Shield member ID cards in the coming months. A new look, a new layout, and in some cases, new information.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association has established new rules for all Blue Cross and Blue Shield member ID cards. The rules, which begin to take effect in 2009, create a consistent, reliable look which makes the BCBS brand even stronger. The cards are also more durable, meaning fewer lost and damaged cards. The result is a straight-forward, seamless, organized member experience.

Transition starts with the New Year.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield members will begin to receive redesigned cards starting November 19, 2008. Rather than a mass replacement of cards, Blue Cross and Blue Shield will start with a transitional plan. So members of the same group may very possibly have different cards for a period of time. Here’s how the transition will work starting November 19:

> If a Group or Individual member renews with benefit changes, members will receive redesigned cards.

>If a Group or Individual member renews without benefit changes, members can continue to use their old cards. Group members will start receiving their new ID cards beginning Second Quarter 2009 (upon renewal). Individual members will start receiving their new ID cards beginning Third Quarter 2010.

>New Individual members, new groups and new members within existing groups will receive redesigned cards.

>Group or Individual members who ask for a replacement card (due to loss, damage, PCP change, etc.) will receive redesigned cards.

By January 1, 2011, all Blue Cross and Blue Shield members in all group and individual plans will receive a redesigned card.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield anticipates a smooth transition to the new cards, and there will be no action required by you or your broker.

The name Blue Cross is one of the most respected insurance companies around. Everyone has heard of them and their reputation is impeccable and has been for a very long time. They now carry Blue Cross dental insurance, which is respected and held just a high as the rest of their benefit plans. Millions of people are lucky enough to have or have had Blue Cross at one time or another in their lives. They will tell you that is the best insurance to have. Blue Cross dental insurance is held at the same standards.

As with other insurance companies, Blue Cross dental insurance also has many different plans to choose from. The prices vary and so does the amount of coverage you get with each plan. There are individual plans as well as family plans. They have group insurance plans also that some companies of employment will provide at much lower rates along with other health insurances and life insurances.

Picking A Dentist

Fortunately, for us all nearly every doctor and dentist accepts Blue Cross Insurance. With Blue Cross dental insurance, you can see any doctor you like as long as they accept the insurance. Blue Cross is the largest accepted medical insurance around. The doctors can tell you that they are paid promptly with Blue Cross patients and others do not surpass their service record. Very few doctors do not accept Blue Cross insurances. There is an excellent chance that your dentist will accept Blue Cross Dental Insurance. If for some reason he or she does not accept Blue Cross, ask them if they can refer you to a doctor or dentist that does. For more info see http://www.knowdentalinsurance.com/ on Dental Insurance.

Embarrasing teeth probelm?

(Submitted by: â™ LISAâ™ )

I am so scared of the dentist that even when I think about it, I get all sweaty and my heart starts beating rapidly. I know I need to go because my teeth have gotten so bad that I don’t think I have any bone left (bottom). Is there something that can be done so I can get a denture. I know that you can’t get a denture if there is no bone for them to adhere to, but surely there is something that can be done. And please tell me the least expensive thing. I do have dental insurance (BCBS) that pays 1/2 of all costs, but not up front, those come from my pocket. I need help, I cannot smile for fear that people will see my teeth, my self confidence has ..well, I have none. I don’t like to talk because I don’t want to show my teeth. This is an embarrasing situation and I know that I should have taken better care of them before, so please no ugly comments. Is there anyone of you that give me some good advise.

Blue Cross Blue Shield, Helping Out Families Across the Country

Blue Cross Blue Shield has been one of the best health insurance companies in the United States for the past seventy years. Overall in the United States there are 39 Blue Cross Blue Shield companies that have provided health insurance for millions of people. Recently that number has changed as the number of uninsured Americans has risen to an all-time high in the past few years with a record number of adults and children being uninsured. In fact, the number of uninsured Americans rose for the sixth time in six years in 2007, making the total number of uninsured adults in the United States around 46 million and the uninsured rate for children rose to over 8 million, which is up from the two previous years. Although the rate of uninsured adults is very high, the number of uninsured children is what we should be worried about.

In the year 2004 a law was implemented called the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), under this program each state is given funding in order to to provide health insurance to families with children who otherwise would not have the money to pay for health insurance coverage by companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield. The program was intended to cover specifically the children in families who do have a disposable income to spend on health insurance, but that income may be so low that they may not be able to afford affordable health coverage from companies such as Medicaid. Since the program was implemented the number of uninsured children has decreased every year until 2004 when the funding for SCHIP was cut, which has greatly impacted the number of people being helped by SCHIP. Another reason why the rate of uninsured people has risen in the past few years is for the simple fact that many companies that at one point provided health insurance to their employees may not have the money to do so anymore. Employer-based coverage is disappearing at an alarming rate. For many of the families who are covered through a parent’s employer this may be the only way for them to receive insurance, there is a good chance these people may not be able to afford health insurance on their own. With this type of coverage disappearing, the number of children who are uninsured is now estimated around 8 million, compared to around only 7 million in 2006, this increase of uninsured children can be directly related to the lack of employer-based coverage and the tightening of funding from SCHIP.

One of the companies that is trying to help out these families and children who are struggling to make ends meet during this difficult time is Blue Cross Blue Shield. Through Blue Cross Blue Shield many families can afford health insurance coverage though their variety of health insurance policies that can apply to any type of family ranging from one person looking to insure themselves, to a family with five kids that needs to find affordable health coverage.

My daughter born in hospital was premature required to stay in the hospital for 20 days. Her claim of hospital stay denied saying that I did not call BCBS’s medical management number in 48 hours. I did call number provided at back of the card same day my daughter born and they did not inform me about this medical management procedure. I am sure hospital must have also informed BCBS. My wife’s claim during hospital stay are approved but my daughter’s claim denied. Bill of my daughter’s claim is more than 80,000$ out of that 74000 they paid and denied remaining. everytime I called them their representative told me that it’s approved and shouldn’t be a problem. but I recently got a letter that it’s not approved. I did send grievance letter in writing but they did not approve. I am paying 700 $/month for so long time to BCBS. Do I have any chance to get this approved? if so, what procedure should I follow? please help.
one point is that my wife was admitted for emergency and all her claims are processed without any issues. my daughter born in hospital and I wasn’t sure how long she is going to be there in hospital at the time.

are we still covered for medical insurance?

(Submitted by: C)

We had medical insurance with BCBS through my fiance’s employer. He quit his job about 3 weeks ago. They have not sent any information about COBRA yet and I was just wondering can we still be covered for the insurance until they send us our COBRA papers or do they cancel insurance once the job is terminated? How long after you quit the job do they cancel the insurance?

Maximum out of pocket expense PPO~ annual or per “incident?”?

(Submitted by: Lynda M ♥)

I have tried calling my insurance company and can either never get through or they may me feel ignorant. I have a 90/10 policy with $1000 maximum out of pocket. I have BCBS PPO and am just wondering if the maximum out of pocket refers to each incident or a calendar year. I am scheduled for a hip replacement with 4 days of hospital stay. Please note: I will contact my insurance agent I’m just wanting an experienced answer. Thanks!

Anyone know any holistic doctors in Michigan?

(Submitted by: PonyzRus)

I’m looking for a holistic practitioner in Oakland County, Michigan that takes insurance (BCBS.) I have seen some specialists (Ayurveda) and they don’t take insurance – I need someone that will provide alternative, homeopathic remedies, who also has the expertise of Western medicine and that takes insurance.

Health insurance benefits and costs between MA and IL?

(Submitted by: tommy84567)

Hi. One year ago I moved from MA to IL. I was really surprised to find out that MA has not much insurance companies and those have very high premiums and limited choice (HMO AND PPO). Like I am 19 and student. The average cost in MA would be for me min $290 for HMO (and I think required PCP sucks) and min $400 for PPO with deductible $5000 (BCBS)! Wow. Here in Illinois for about $140 I can have PPO with deductible just $250 and copays for doctors and prescriptions (BCBSIL). I have also found New York state has also very generous and expensive health insurance. What it is that these states have very expensive premiums and limited choice in selecting plans (for ex deductibles and copays and RX coverage)? Not everyone for ex needs coverage for prescription and that lowers monthly premium? so why? I guess these are some state legislations, but why not handful for citizens? Can someone answer my questions?
BTW I have already AETNA with deductible $5000 and copays and it justs $49 (I guess for everyone under 30 with good medical records and same location).
actually I do not have yet but applied for this

Blue Cross Insurance Comes Up With Phrs Model

Good quality health care is simply a means of having the right information in the right hands and at the right time. You might be an individual or a family person, every body require synchronized sort of health care information, which might be distinct among a number of physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and even among few other health care providers. But in fact we are many years away from this system that are in fact fully interoperable.

Consumers would now have better-quality access to the health care information they may require sometime to optimize their health needs and thanks to a new personal health record (PHR) model being monitored by Blue cross health insurance plans.

America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is now working in combine way to know the core health care information that comprises in PHRs, and have developed and pilot tested standards that as well allow consumers to move PHR data when they require to change their coverage. This makes sure that PHRs would certainly be moveable from one health insurer to another health insurer, as customers may request. Members of the two teams cover approximately 200 million people.

The diligence model PHR by Blue cross insurance is actually a private one, secure web-based tool that is preserved by an insurer that further comprise of a consumer’s claims and governmental information. PHRs permit individual patients and their selected caregivers to appear and manage health care information and play a superior role in their own health care.

Consequently of health insurance also claims filed on behalf of policy holder, insurers have main information necessary to offer PHRs, and are in an elite position to build them for customers in the close to term. PHRs are dissimilar from the electronic health records that offers usually use to store and run full detailed clinical information. An estimation of 75 million people has PHRs all through health insurers, with millions more planning for the service during 2007.

Physicians tend to hearten insurers to aggress on a consistent set of core PHR data. Health insurers would take on innovating in the PHRs they get bigger, but the aim is to slot in core data elements into any PHR. These elements consist of patient histories, medications, immunizations, allergies, risks, plans of care, and as well few other information, which physicians know as the key data. The health insurance groups of people have set certain aim of incorporating the core data elements and put into practice the standards for portability from a previous insurer to a new insurer by 2008.
